Behind the Wheel For Teens

Student Requirements:
– Must be at least 15 years and 6 months
– Must have Green Card or proof of completion of 36 hour driving course
– Must have valid learner’s permit
– Should have completed 45 hours of driving with parent

Behind the Wheel Curriculum, is based on the Virginia Driver and Safety (VADETS) curriculum. The driving course covers residential, city, and highway driving.

The Behind the Wheel course is a seven day class consisting of 50 minutes of driving and 50 minutes of observation.

Adult Waiver Program

Student Requirements:
– Must be at least 18 years of age
– Must have a valid driving permit

The Adult Waiver program is for anyone 18 and older that holds a learner’s permit and wishes to waive the 60 day period that an adult must wait to take their road skills test.

Any adult 18 years of age and older can take the Behind The Wheel course with a private DMV approved driving school and receive their license prior to the 60 day waiting period.

Driver’s Education for Teens and Adults

This course is equivalent to the driver’s education course available at most high schools.

The course consists of 36 hour classroom periods; it includes lessons on requirements to become licensed in the state of Virginia; how to check your vehicle before you start to drive; alcohol safety; distracted driving; traffic signs; rules of the road; and many other topics.

Re-Examination (3X DMV Test Failure) for Teens And Adults

This course is required if you have failed the learner’s permit test three times (3X).

The DMV requires that you show proof of completion of the 8 hour Driver’s Manual Course or you can retake the 36 hour classroom course.

Driver’s Improvement for Teens and Adults

The Driver Improvement Clinic may be required by the DMV or Court Ordered.

It can also be taken voluntary.

Driver Improvement Clinic is an 8 hour class. You can earn up to 5 safe driving points.
